Amazon Studios has ordered a live-action series based on Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang's Paper Girls series in what was described as a "competitive" bidding situation, according to Deadline. Stephany Folsom, a writer on Toy Story 4 (as well as Star Wars Resistance!), will lead the adaptation.
Odd things are happening at Amazon. Vaughan and Chiang debuted the comic in 2016, and it quickly won a fan following and critical acclaim. The series' (simplified) synopsis is as follows: "In the early hours after Halloween of 1988, four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls uncover the most important story of all time". Along the way, the girls also discover what their respective futures hold.
Vaughan's time-travelling adventure Paper Girls was just given a series commitment by Amazon. Another comic by Vaughan is now in development for FX; the TV adaptation Y: The Last Man is slated for a 2020 release, though its development cycle has had some unexpected hiccups (like the series losing its showrunners). A production date hasn't been set yet.
