The Haunting of Hill House's sequel won't be the only chills Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy will scare up at Netflix in the near future. That's clearly not enough serialised terror for the pair, as they've also just landed a deal to make Midnight Mass for the streaming service.
Titled Midnight Mass, the story will revolve around an "isolated island community" who experience "miraculous events and frightening omens" after a mysterious young priest joins them, according to Netflix. So yes, don't expect too many happy smiling faces.
Under the multi-year overall television deal, Flanagan and Macy are producing new TV projects exclusively for Netflix.
Midnight Mass takes place in an isolated island community that begins to witness some incredible (and really unsettling) phenomena after an alluring young man of the cloth arrives in town.
The pickup for Midnight Mass follows the breakout success of Haunting of Hill House, which led to Netflix ordering a second installment, The Haunting of Bly Manor, turning the series into a horror franchise.
Unlike The Haunting of Hill House, which was based on Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name, the series appears to be completely original.
Filmmaker Flanagan and producer Macy first collaborated on the 2014 feature Oculus.
