Netflix cast new police interrogation drama that sounds like nothing we've seen before

Netflix announced crime procedural Criminal, and it's got serious star power behind it with the likes of David Tennant and Hayley Atwell.

The series, which takes place within the confines of a police interview suite, spans France, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, with three episodes set in each country, according to our sister site Deadline.

"This stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects", Netflix said.

What's more, talent from each country will write, direct, and star in their respective episodes, which will be produced in the country's native language. Youssef Kerkour and Clare-Hope Ashiitey are guest stars in the United Kingdom batch of episodes.

David Tennant and Hayley Atwell will be featured in the United Kingdom episode, but the cast includes Margot Bancilhon, Laurent Lucas and Stéphane Jobert from France; Eva Meckbach, Sylvester Groth, and Florence Kasumba from Germany; and Jorge Bosch, José Ángel Egido and Nuria Mencía from Spain.

Nathalie Baye, Jeremie Renier and Sara Giraudeau have been cast for the French episodes, Peter Kurth, Christian Berkel, Deniz Arora and Nina Hoss starring in the German ones, and Carmen Machi, Inma Cuesta and Eduard Fernandez in the Spanish episodes.

The announcement video showed the main members of the cast have their mug shots taken while showing glimpses of the interrogation room.

Criminal, which is set to arrive in the fall, will consist of 12, 45-minute long episodes each taking place inside of a police interview suite.

The series will premiere on the streaming service this autumn. Awesome global cast. 12 crime stories.
