The Golden State Warriors not only lost the National Basketball Association championship on Thursday night, but they lost another star player late in the game when Klay Thompson suffered a knee injury after landing awkwardly in the third quarter.
Thompson initially was taken off the court following the injury, but he came back following a timeout in order to shoot his free throws so he could potentially return to the game later on. After having witnessed Kevin Durant go down for the season with a ruptured Achilles in Game 5, fans and fellow National Basketball Association players feared the worst as Thompson went back to the locker room.
Thompson was seen using crutches in the tunnel after being ruled out.
Thompson scored 30 points in the game before exiting. The 29-year-old will be a free agent this summer and was expected to sign a major contract.
Two of the Warriors' best players from this season's team - Kevin Durant being the other - are now entering next season facing recoveries from major injuries.
