The Alpine A110S joins the A110 Pure and A110 Légende as the most expensive - and most powerful - of the bunch. As such, "just like that classic model they're playful and fun to drive", Jean-Pascal Dauce observes. Buildling on this momentum, Alpine has added a new flagship model to the A110 range. If the Pure is your twisty road vehicle and the Legende is your tourer, the A110S sits somewhere between sports and track focus. "Although lap times are never a priority for our road cars, the new A110S is nonetheless faster than the A110 's other versions".
Using the same TCe MP5 turbocharged 1,8-litre four-cylinder engine as the Renault Megane RS, the A110S delivers 215 kW, an improvement over from the base car's 185 kW output. It is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels.
At under 2,500 pounds the goal, though, is still agility through lightness.
Billed as an "intense sports auto", the range-topping model has a modestly revised exterior with 18-inch GT Race wheels that feature a dark finish and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.
Besides the upgraded engine, the A110S has a retuned suspension with 50% stiffer coil springs and 100% stiffer anti-roll bars.
Elsewhere, designers installed black Alpine badging and a flag detail that features carbon fiber accents. Exclusive to the A110S is the optional Gris Tonnerre matte paint job. Spending a little extra will get you a glossy carbon fiber roof that reduces the weight of the auto by 1.5 kg (3.3 lb), or a set of Fuchs alloy wheels that drop some 5kg (11 lb) off the unsprung weight. The lighter Sabelt seats, too, get the same fabric, and there's a leather and Dinamica wrapped steering wheel.
A Focal audio system, telemetry setup, and front and rear parking sensors are also standard on the A110S. The goal, Alpine says, is a vehicle which can be used every day, despite its responsiveness. The Alpine A110S is now available to order in Europe starting at €66,500 ($74,902), with first deliveries starting later this year. Deliveries are expected by the end of the year.
