Kane responds, "It will be... when it fits a woman".
The schedule won't have "Jane the Novela", a spinoff of CW's just-ended "Jane the Virgin" that had been under consideration. The Ruby Rose-led "Batwoman" and the network's new take on "Nancy Drew" will both be debuting in the fall, while the "Riverdale" spin-off, "Katy Keene", is set for a midseason premiere.
During the New York Upfronts, The CW unveiled the first official images from the Batwoman pilot, directed by Marcos Siega.
When Kane enters Wayne Security, we find out that Batman is her cousin. Comic book readers expressed disappointment with how different this Batwoman take is from her comic book counterpart, with some going so far as to say that they ruined the character. The design of her final Batwoman suit is terrific too. The show will air on Sunday nights at 8/7c.
Ruby Rose was cast as Batwoman in August, for the Elseworlds crossover and the stand-alone series that was being developed.
The series will centre around Kate Kane becoming the new Caped Crusader to protect her father (Dougray Scott) and beloved city against a series of threats, including the Wonderland Gang - whose leader, the Mad Hatter, was also featured in Gotham-and a heavily armed private security force bankrolled by Kate's stepmother. Kate was a modern adaptation of Kathy Kane, the first Batwoman, who was introduced during the Silver Age as one of the many extraneous members of the Bat-family (pour one out for Bat-Mite and Ace the Bat-Hound).
Last year, when Rose was announced as the new Kate Kane, she experienced online backlash and ultimately deleted her Twitter account.
I've got no worries when it comes to Rose's ability to handle the physicality and fisticuffs that come with the role.
'This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different, ' she added. "(...) My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other".
"I am looking forward to getting more than 4 hours of sleep and to break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects".
