The Flight of the Conchords star will play marine biologist Dr Ian Garvin in the epic fantasy films.
What's interesting here is they've said he's signed on to the "sequels", as opposed to just Avatar 2: Pandora Boogaloo*, which means Clement could be in for the long haul.
One has to assume, given Clement's history, that he's being brought onboard to lend the Avatar sequels a certain comedic touch. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in, and feel free to head on down to the comments section if you've got anything to add to all this. Cameron recently explained that Stephen Lang's Colonel Miles Quaritch is coming back for all four sequels and will be the main villain throughout the story.
Actresses Michelle Yeoh, Kate Winslet and Oona Chaplin have also been confirmed for the upcoming films, while Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver will return to their roles.
"Avatar 2", the first of four follow-ups, will hit theaters on December 17, 2021, a year after what Fox had planned before it was bought by Disney in March. Avatar 4 will open two years after that on December 19, 2025 (originally December 20, 2024) and Avatar 5 will drop on December 17, 2027 (originally December 19, 2025).
Clement created What We Do in the Shadows series based on the 2014 vampire feature mockumentary of the same name, which he wrote and directed with Taika Waititi.
