Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro has passed away at the age of 39 after being transported to hospital from her Long Island home. The cause of her death has not been revealed, but TMZ Sports notes it's being classified as "non-criminal".

Friday, The Blast reported that Massaro had committed suicide - citing a quote from her friend Shelly Martinez's Facebook page.

While working with the WWE, she feuded with the likes of Candice Michelle, Torrie Wilson, Victoria, Mickie James, and Michelle McCool. She appeared in 2007 on "Survivor: China", but was eliminated in the second episode.

Massaro also competed on the CBS show "Survivor" about a decade ago.

Ashley Massaro was part of the WWE roster from 2005 to 2008, and she joined a class action lawsuit against the company which claimed that the company failed to protect wrestlers from concussions.

WWE stars and fans expressed their condolences on social media once news of Massaro's passing spread.

Tributes then poured from WWE legends and superstars who worked with her during her three-year stint with the wrestling giants that started in 2005. She was just 39.

"I truly love her more than anything or anyone in this world!" "If we took enough pills, the pain went away (temporarily) and we were able to wrestle". She was always so nice.and now she's gone. We did countless photo shoots and press days together. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. She would have turned 40 on May 26, and leaves behind a daughter.
