Flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day

Indianapolis, In. - In honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day Governor Eric J. Holcomb is directing flags across the state to remain at half-staff on today.

The definition of a peace officer depends on the specific jurisdiction. We also honor those in blue who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty. According to the White House proclamation, there were 106 officers who lost their lives on duty previous year.

In response to President Donald Trump's proclamation of Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has ordered both the USA and Wyoming flags to be flown at half-staff tomorrow. The Criminal Justice School Information website states that "Often a peace officer is a law enforcement officer, like a police officer, sheriff, sheriff's deputy, constable, constable deputy, marshal, etc". We owe them, and their families, our full and enduring support.

"Each year we recognize law enforcement officers for putting service above self to protect fellow Kansans", Kelly said. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.

"In humble appreciation of our hardworking law enforcement officers, Melania and I will light the White House in blue on May 15", President Trump said. The statement added, "I call upon all Americans to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week with appropriate ceremonies and activities".
