Mike Maccagnan Out as Jets GM Adam Gase Gets Interim Title

The Jets announced his firing Wednesday morning. Field Yates adds that Jets head coach Adam Gase is assuming the interim GM title.

"Mike helped to execute the strategic vision of the organization during the last four seasons and especially the past few months", Johnson said. Coach Adam Gase will be the interim general manager while an immediate search begins for a replacement, CEO Christopher Johnson said in a statement. The Eagles previously blocked the Texans from interviewing him for their general manager opening in 2017. "I would like to thank Mike for his time and efforts during his tenure, and I wish only the best for him and his wife Betty". ESPN reported during the draft that friction had developed between Maccagnan and Gase because of disagreements over personnel during free agency.

But Gase, however, downplayed any rumors of clashes as recently as Friday.

"I don't know who decides to put that stuff out there", Gase said. That's our job. We have to work through so much stuff.

In news that had been rumored but was nonetheless unusual timing, Jets GM Mike Maccagnan and VP of Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger are out, according to Adam Schefter.

The timing is odd considering Maccagnan oversaw the Jets' draft less than three weeks ago, although there were rumors that he and Gase had some tension - which both denied.

Maccagnan's first move was hiring Todd Bowles as head coach, though Bowles was sacked earlier this year.

News of Maccagnan's firing comes amid rumors that he and Gase got into an argument centered around the draft, and how much they should have offered running back Le'Veon Bell.

Heimerdinger and Maccagnan worked together in Houston, and Heimerdinger joined the Jets three years ago.
