Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie are now legally single

According to the documents, obtained by The Blast, the ruling restores their relationship status to single while allowing them to continue working on a final settlement agreement for assets and custody - which basically means the divorce has not yet been finalised.

Cape Town - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached a custody agreement two years and three months after separating. After settling the bifurcated divorce, Jolie also legally dropped her married last name.

Following a long estrangement from her father, Jon Voight, Jolie submitted a petition to the court to have his last name dropped from hers and in 2002, she was granted the request to be officially known simply as Angelina Jolie. Just two years later, though, they went their separate ways, citing "irreconcilable differences".

Pitt, 55, and Jolie, 43, married in 2014 and filed for divorce in 2016 after first meeting in 2004.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are no longer married.

"He [Brad Pitt] was heartbroken when his marriage ended and it makes him sad to know that she is removing his name from hers, but he feels it is the right thing to do and the kids totally understand", claims the insider.

The move to change her name comes as Jolie is readying a return to the big screen this fall.

"To the surprise of many of their closest friends, their communication has improved tremendously and they're both dedicated to co-parenting", the source added, referring to the couple's six children - Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shilo, 12, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne - over whom the pair engaged in a tense custody battle which was finally resolved through a custody agreement last November.

United States actress Angelina Jolie and children Knox Jolie-Pitt, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt arrive for the world premiere of Disney's Dumbo.

The division of their estate and the custody of their children is a complex process which apparently is going to take more time to work out.
