Trump Says He Plans to Award Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Donald Trump has announced on Twitter that he plans to award the golfer with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Trump didn't say when a ceremony will be held. Trump himself awarded the Medal of Freedom to Babe Ruth, Alan Page, and Roger Staubach just past year, and Barack Obama awarded it to Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Willie Mays, among others, during his presidency.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded by the US President "for especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, or world peace, or cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".

Mr. Trump owns a dozen golf courses in the USA and frequently spends his weekends at his clubs in Florida, Virginia or New Jersey.

Trump is apparently particularly impressed with Woods return to the forefront of golf, as he live-tweeted the end of Woods round in Augusta and was quick to congratulate the athlete multiple times. Orrin Hatch, Elvis Presley, Babe Ruth, Antonin Scalia, Roger Staubach, Miriam Adelson and Alan Page.
