After the loss, Chelsea are now fourth on the table with 66 points from 34 games and they have now played one game more than their top-four rivals.
Liverpool's performance against Chelsea was as impressive as any they have given in the Premier League for a few months. We've played with incredible personality in all the games, including the Champions League games.
We've had 183 points in two seasons with five games left. 97 (possible). Let's try. If not, we can not change it. And we didn't lose it here or there or whatever.
"Very smart people will come out and say "Yeah, if you would have won against Leicester you would be champions". Only weak people and idiots bring something like this up".
At one point in the second half, Chelsea failed to convert a unsafe attack sparked by a similar slip from Andy Robertson, and Klopp claimed the incident should draw a line under Gerrard's error. That incident featured in a number of previews for the game. "Robbo (Andy Robertson) slipped and nothing happened, so it's not a Liverpool thing".
Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri, whose side hit the woodwork through Eden Hazard in the second half, felt the visitors were unlucky not to get something out of the game.
Sarri said: "Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe at this moment".
"It immediately reminded me of the 4-3 against Borussia Dortmund, only Hendo [Jordan Henderson] instead of Millie [James Milner] and Sadio instead of Dejan [Lovren], but a similar situation with this wonderful cross in that area and really good team play".
Hazard beat Alisson Becker in a one-on-one only for his shot to rebound off the post before firing a first-time, close-range shot straight at the goalkeeper when he seemed certain to score, with Higuain also missing a chance soon after.
"We stayed in the match for 50 minutes. We are improving. Three months ago, we were not able to stay in the match".
