The other coach who is reportedly in the mix is former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue.

Lue is now not working and Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports said that meeting likely happens next week. Still, the Lakers have started the process of talking to him, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Cleveland general manager Koby Altman will talk with Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard as well as Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley.

Rob Pelinka will meet with Monty Williams between game 2 and 3 of the Philadelphia 76ers playoff series as he seeks to find a replacement for Luke Walton.

On Sunday, it was revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers have received permission to interview Howard.

The one upper hand that Howard has over Lue is that he not only coached James, he also played alongside him in Miami.

Williams previously was head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans from 2010-15, compiling a 173-221 record.

Whoever lands the Lakers coaching job will have a lot of work to do, melding a roster that will see a lot of turnover this summer.

After spending the previous two years in the San Antonio Spurs' front office following the death of his wife Ingrid in 2016, Williams got back into coaching as Brett Brown's top assistant with the 76ers. Also, this time the Lakers should look for a little more shooting.

While the Lakers should ideally hire a new president of basketball operations first, it appears they are comfortable with Pelinka moving forward.
