The renders showed a square-shaped camera bump on the back with three rear cameras, similar to the layout on Huawei's Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. As for the selfie camera, we may be seeing an 11MP selfie camera paired with a new and improved 3D face recognition housed in notch.
The beginning of the year brought us rumors of a triple-camera iPhone.
Interestingly enough, the report doesn't say what kind of camera the third camera would be. Or would it be a third "depth camera" (also called a "ToF" camera - short for Time of Flight) to assist with portrait mode photos and augmented reality applications.
While the "high-end" iPhone 11 and 11 Plus models will move to a triple-camera setup on the back, the second-generation iPhone XR is highly likely to switch to a dual-lens camera system.
This means there's a chance that the base models, regardless of whether we're talking about the iPhone XS successor or the new iPhone XS Max, could come with the same dual-camera system as the current models.
What this year's iPhones with three cameras might look like.
Apple has big plans for the camera on the 2019 iPhone, according to a new report.Credit: OnLeaks/DigitIndiaThe folks over at Apple-tracking site Macotakara have cited sources who claim to have knowledge of Apple's plans.
The report, which was floated in January by OnLeaks and DigitIndia in a mockup (above), suggests that Apple's triple-lens design will only be available in the higher-end versions of the iPhone 11 to entice folks to the more expensive options.
All of this is pure speculation, of course. Mac Otakara says cases of iPhone 11's with the square camera bump are already in the wild. Knowing Apple, it'll probably go with a symmetrical design similar to the camera setup on the Mate 20 Pro.
