"Normally, when you hand out a bonus for next year's season, there's a pretty good chance those guys are coming back", Gruden told reporters December 28. He caught 63 passes for 739 yards and three touchdowns over 15 games in his only season with the Raiders.
Count wide receiver J.J. Nelson as the latest member of last year's Arizona Cardinals to exit via free agency.
Nelson, 33, was picked up by the Raiders last offseason after the Packers released him.
Nelson, 26, played each of his first four National Football League seasons in Arizona after the Cardinals drafted him in the fifth round (159th overall) in 2015.
When the Raiders beat the Denver Broncos at home on Christmas Eve a year ago, it appeared it might be the final time that Oakland fans could cheer on their team in the Coliseum. In addition to Nelson, veteran wideout Seth Roberts also could be shown the door by the Raiders, who are in full rebuild mode when it comes to the roster.
The two sides agreed to a deal for a new lease, and the Coliseum Stadium Authority board voted unanimously on Friday to approve the extension.
