"One thing about these tournaments and the postseason is that its a whole new season and whole new beginnings for every single team involved".
Lamar Peters' wrist is feeling much better, and now he's doing his best to help the Mississippi State Bulldogs burnish their resume before the NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs, who have won seven of their last nine games, have been effective when engaged on the defensive end. Grant Williams led Tennessee in scoring and rebounding with 19.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while Admiral Schofield came 2nd in scoring with 16.3 points per game and Jordan Bone came 3rd while leading the Vols in assists with 13.4 points and 6.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Tennessee is averaging 82.3 points per game with the 6th-best field goal percentage in D-I, shooting 49.9% from the field, along with 35.2% from behind the arc and 76.3% from the foul line this season.
In a conference and conference tournament historically dominated by Kentucky, the Volunteers are eager to end the lengthy conference tournament title drought after claiming a share of the SEC regular-season title past year.
It only got worse in the second half where the Bulldogs' biggest issue was a warning to coach Ben Howland to get back inside the coach's box.
Mississippi State: The Bulldogs dominated the undermanned Aggies, especially inside.
Howland said he looks forward to post-season play. All of the sweat, everything they've done. Our guys are playing well, and I'm excited. When we play like that, it's great. "It always feels good when you come out of a good practice". Tip time is slated for approximately 8:30 p.m. CT televised by SEC Network and available online courtesy of the WatchESPN platform.
DID YOU KNOW: Mississippi State has made 8.5 3-pointers per game this season, which is second-best among SEC teams. Tom Hart, Jon Sundvold and Andy Kennedy will serve as the announcing team.
"Of course, we want to worry about the first game first".
The Aggies are coming off a 69-52 victory over Vanderbilt Wednesday night and will now be going up a well-rested Mississippi State men's basketball team. Then, if and when we get past the first game, we are all looking forward to the opportunity because we know that they (Tennessee) got us really good at their place. They're a team that has a chance to win the national championship, to be a Final Four team.
Vegas now has Mississippi State taking it by seven points but as coach Howland said anything can happen in the postseason, especially with A&M coming off a big win over Vanderbilt.
The Aggies winning streak started back on March 23, 2018 when they beat the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville by a score of 5-2.
