The chargesheet against Shami and his brother was submitted by Kolkata Police before the Alipore court. However, in some temporary relief to the cricketer, the police dropped the more serious charges that were registered in the FIR including sections 307 (attempt to murder), and 376 (punishment for rape) besides criminal intimidation. She had produced screenshots of Shami's alleged conversation with his girlfriend, who, according to Jahan, he had met in Dubai. This had also led to BCCI omitting the pacer from the list of players with a central contract pending an investigation. The BCCI later reinstated his central contract. Hasin had also accused Shami of being involved in match-fixing.
On March 8 a year ago, Kolkata police had registered an FIR against Shami, who, along with his family members were booked under section 498 A (Husband or relative of Husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
Jahan, a former model, publicly accused Shami of having numerous affairs and harassment. The chargesheet has been filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. But Shami bounced back in style and has regained his form since the past few months. Shami was recently a key part of the Indian team that took on Australia in the just-concluded ODI series that India lost 2-3.
