While on the show, the actor also opened up about his massive back tattoo - a full-color picture of a phoenix taking flight, which completely covers his back.

"I had a game last week and I was promoting the movie, and I was going to Asia, and I was like, 'I have to come back a day early, '" Affleck said, adding that Netflix let him leave the press tour early to coach the game. "Not so much positive", joked Affleck, before beginning to explain that the tattoo is a Phoenix.

"It's not something that I sort of kept private, It wasn't like I was doing photoshoots or whatever, we were two hours north of the city on an island in Hawaii and we didn't know the paparazzi were there", Affleck told DeGeneres of the shot.

"It represents something very important to me".

Next up, DeGeneres pulled up a pic of Affleck's infamous back tattoo that was snapped by paparazzi past year while the actor was at the beach. "I like it... The sentiment ran against, but I love it - luckily, I'm the one who has it". Am I the ashes in this scenario? "And so it's like, whatever it took for me to get to this place, I'm grateful for it". He also revealed that Ellen is one of the only shows both him and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner agree is appropriate for their children to watch. Say what you will about Affleck's back tattoo (and there's plenty to say!), but it was still a better decision than my Gigli face tat.
