They were able to exit their vehicle safely after the snow passed through.

Yesterday, an avalanche dumped snow across a section of Interstate 70, covering some vehicles in snow.

During the video, Mr Easton stops the auto as he drives towards the snow while it gathers speed.

The National Weather Service issued an avalanche warning on Sunday at the request of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

"It's exciting, but pretty nerve wracking, because you don't know when it's going to stop", Easton told FOX31, recounting the unexpected hazard.

Authorities say a missing backcountry skier apparently died in a massive avalanche in southwestern Colorado.

While the avalanche looked bad on camera, it wasn't enough to close the highway. No injuries were reported.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center also captured video from a helicopter of the controlled avalanche along the Disney slide path above Berthoud Pass on United States 40. In Vail and Summit Counties, where Frisco is located, the CAIC said an avalanche warning was in effect through Monday morning "due to large amounts of snowfall and strong westerly winds". When the slide danger is high, roads are often closed so crews can trigger avalanches at places prone to slides.
