Your one stop shoe shop won't be around much longer.
Wrote a frustrated customer on Payless Shoe Source's Facebook page Friday, Feb. 15 as word began to spread that the retailer was closing all 2,110 of its stores in the United States.
While shoppers prefer to buy in-store, more people are shifting to shopping online as big boxes have a tough time competing with lower prices on places like Amazon.
"We expect all stores to remain open until at least the end of March and the majority will remain open until May", a statement issued to USA Today said. Most locations will stay open up to May.
The company first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2017 and closed roughly 400 stores at that time. After 18 months and new ownership the company temporarily exited bankruptcy. The Wall Street Journal said this may be the largest-ever USA retail liquidation.
The company says its stores in Latin America will remain open.
