The New York Times is reporting that the septet and more than a dozen associates "described a pattern of manipulative behaviour in which Adams dangled career opportunities while simultaneously pursuing female artists for sex".

The allegations involve Adams using his industry clout to pressure the women into uncomfortable situations.

Actress Mandy Moore, star of the hit drama This Is Us, was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016.

In the story published Wednesday, a 20-year-old female musician said Adams, 44, had inappropriate conversations with her while she was 15 and 16. In a text message from 2014 reviewed by the Times, Adams wrote to her, "If people knew they would say I was like R Kelley lol".

'His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time - my entire mid-to-late 20s, ' she said.

Adams denied all the claims through his lawyer, specifically saying that Moore's memories were "completely inconsistent with his view of the relationship". His lawyer said he recalled the interactions with the women differently and referred to some of the claims as "grousing by disgruntled individuals" who were trying to harm him, the paper reported.

Mandy Moore, left, alleged in a New York Times report that her ex, Ryan Adams, was emotionally abusive and controlling of her career.

Adams also weighed in himself, tweeting out an apology to anyone he has ever hurt - "however unintentionally".

"If people knew they would say I was like R. Kelly", he wrote to Ava before, "I just want you to touch your nipple", and "And tell me that your mom is not gonna kill me if she finds out we even text".

"What you experience with him - the treatment, the destructive, manic sort of back and forth behavior - feels so exclusive", Moore said of Adams.

The woman all said that they finally agreed to come forward after realizing that they were not alone and that Adams had allegedly treated others as bad as he treated them. I am happy for everyone and doing my best.

Yet five other women have also come forward and spoken about Adams' behaviour, including ex-fiancée Megan Butterworth, who split from Adams only past year and has since accused him of emotional abuse and harassment.

Following the article's publication, Adams took to Twitter to say he wasn't a flawless man and apologized for hurting anyone's feelings, however, he added the report was inaccurate and much of the supposed "facts" were gross exaggerations and distortions of the truth. Speaking on the accusation of sending flirty messages to a minor, he added, "I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage". Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false.

Rising country star Phoebe Bridgers said that Adams was more concerned with starting a sexual relationship with her than helping her career when it came to working with her. "And I wish everyone compassion, understanding and healing".

Ava, an up-and-coming bassist, then 16, says Adams reached out on social media and they maintained a friendly relationship that not only turned flirty but quickly turned sexual.
