You can file a claim on the Vizio TV settlement website. And the next time you turn on your Vizio TV, you might find yourself greeted by news of an impending windfall.
Vizio already had been fined $2.2 million by the FTC for the practice, and in 2018 it reached a $17 million class action settlement, which brings us to today.
If you have a Vizio smart TV in your home, you may see a message about the settlement on your screen.
If you are not sure whether you are included in the class, you can ask for free help by calling the Settlement Administrator at 877-252-4685 for more information. You can do so by visiting viziotvsettlement.com. After attorney's fees, court fees, and other fees, those who make a claim could be left with only $31 each, according to CordCutters. You'll just need to give them your name, address, phone number (which is how you'll get the payment), and email address. Hit the submit button, and they'll take things from there.
It's also worth noting that as part of the settlement, Vizio had to agree to delete any consumer data it collected before February 6th, 2017. Estimated $13-31 per television.
"The class action alleges VIZIO violated privacy laws and consumer-protection laws by collecting sensitive information about what was displayed on certain VIZIO Smart TVs between February 1, 2014 and February 6, 2017 and selling your data to advertisers without sufficient disclosures". You don't even have to be in a hurry here, either, as you have until April 29th to get it done. You could ignore the settlement, of course, but not only will you not get paid, you also waive the right to sue the company for anything else related to that case.
