And while Cardi appeared overcome with joy at last night's ceremony, she was singing a slightly different tune on Monday.
The hip-hop star became the first woman to win in the Best Rap Album category with her record Invasion of Privacy at the US music prizegiving - and sang her hit "Money" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "I listen to my album and I cry because I know the hell I went thruu doing the album is always a bittersweet memory". "I want to say thank you so much".
Cardi then referenced her two nominations for Bodak Yellow at last year's Grammys where she came away empty handed. Like we said, the moment was NBD for the recent Grammy victor, as she continued the performance like the professional she is. We was like, 'We have to get this album done, ' so I could shoot the videos while I'm still not showing. "Cardi got snubbed!' Now, this year's a f*cking problem?"
Cardi seemed overwhelmed as she received her honor as she joked: 'Oh, the nerves are so bad.
Up on stage, she thanked husband Offset and the pair's baby daughter Kulture. She won for her debut album "Invasion of Privacy", beating out Nipsey Hussle, Pusha T, Travis Scott and the late Mac Miller.
"Good for her. i promise. i'm sorry", she wrote. "Maybe I need to start smoking weed!"
Earlier in the evening, Cardi wowed the crowd with a performance of "Money" on a lavish, cushioned, lounge club set.
