After converting a three-point play to pull within two points of Illinois State, Missouri State forced a turnover with seven seconds left on an inbounds play.
Missouri State earned a win over Illinois State in an unbelievable way Sunday. The ensuing pass was tipped and almost stolen, setting off a wild scramble for the loose ball.
The win improved Missouri State's record to 13-12.
However, something unusual and attractive happened in the final seconds of an otherwise anonymous game, with Missouri State senior Jarred Dixon converting a wild buzzer-beater from halfcourt to secure the victory. He then launched a shot from half court, which sank through the net to give his team the 66-65 victory.
That's a heartbreaking defeat for Illinois State, but there is one consolation prize.
Perhaps the Redbirds will have their chance at revenge during the postseason.
