RCMP and Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team's Internet Child Exploitation unit searched a home in Stony Plain.

Police say the investigation began on November 22, when an ongoing monitoring operation detected a computer that was matched to a Kingston IP address connected to a file-sharing network. They suspected that someone using that computer had captured files containing child pornography. A number of digital devices and data storage media were seized in the raid.

A Halifax man is scheduled to appear in court Friday to face several child pornography charges.

He's been charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, making arrangements for a sexual offence against a child (sexual assault) and making sexually explicit material available to a child (images).

Police said Medeiros has a prior record including convictions on multiple charges of first and second degree child molestation.

Police are still looking through the man's devices and the investigation is ongoing.
