Oklahoma Backup QB Austin Kendall Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Could another quarterback be on the move?

Of the quarterbacks now on the roster, Kendall figures to be in best position to earn the starting job at the outset of next season, but the Sooners could also elect to bring in a transfer to bridge the gap between Murray and five-star prospect Spencer Rattler.

Since 2016, Kendall has only played in eight games for the Sooners. But the move also gives him the option of transferring away from Norman.

If Kendall chooses to leave the University of Oklahoma, the Sooners will likely still have two scholarship quarterbacks in redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai and true freshman Spencer Rattler. Kendall was, according to coach Lincoln Riley, "neck and neck" with Kyler Murray during their preseason battle. He played well in the time he was given, completing 71.8 percent of his passes (28 of 39) for 265 yards and three touchdowns.

Kendall joins a plethora of other notable quarterbacks to recently enter into the transfer portal, including Jalen Hurts, Tate Martell and Shane Buechele.
