Police in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district have booked two people working at a community health centre (CHC) in Ramgarh for alleged negligence during a woman's delivery, resulting in the baby's body being split into two. The woman, 24-year-old Deeksha Kanwar, had to be rushed to Jodhpur, where the doctors operated upon her and removed the baby's head.

Jalam Singh, sub-inspector and investigating officer of the case, said on behalf of Diksha, her husband Tilok Bhati lodged a complaint against Amritlal and Junjhar Singh, the two male nurses. She was then sent to Jodhpur in a serious condition.

The Hindustan Times said the nurse had pulled "so hard while attempting to deliver the baby that it broke into two parts". The incident took place at a hospital in Jaisalmer's Ramgarh. The doctors informed the woman's relatives and the family members.

Dr Usha Duggad, principal medical officer at Jawahar government hospital said it was a rare case. There were two male nurses present when the woman was brought to the PHC before midnight, on the intervening night of January 6 and 7. Since the gynaecologist was on leave, the nursing staff handled the case. "It was a pre-term baby", he added.
