After he botched up the delivery so horribly, the nurse at Ramgarh health centre on Jaisalmer deposited the baby's body in the mortuary without informing anyone that its head was left inside the woman's body.
Both men have been suspended and an internal investigation is now underway.

Police in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district have booked two people working at a community health centre (CHC) in Ramgarh for alleged negligence during a woman's delivery, resulting in the baby's body being split into two. The woman, 24-year-old Deeksha Kanwar, had to be rushed to Jodhpur, where the doctors operated upon her and removed the baby's head.
Jalam Singh, sub-inspector and investigating officer of the case, said on behalf of Diksha, her husband Tilok Bhati lodged a complaint against Amritlal and Junjhar Singh, the two male nurses. She was then sent to Jodhpur in a serious condition.
The Hindustan Times said the nurse had pulled "so hard while attempting to deliver the baby that it broke into two parts". The incident took place at a hospital in Jaisalmer's Ramgarh. The doctors informed the woman's relatives and the family members.
Dr Usha Duggad, principal medical officer at Jawahar government hospital said it was a rare case. There were two male nurses present when the woman was brought to the PHC before midnight, on the intervening night of January 6 and 7. Since the gynaecologist was on leave, the nursing staff handled the case. "It was a pre-term baby", he added.
