Teen crashes in Layton while doing 'Bird Box' Challenge

"I nearly feel silly saying this", said Layton Police Lieutenant Travis Lyman.

There were no injuries reported in connection with the crash, KTLA sister station KSTU in Salt Lake City reported.

The Bird Box challenge, based off of Netflix's latest horror movie where citizens must stay blindfolded to stay alive, had a predictable result.

The 17-year-old girl pulled a beanie over her eyes and kept driving, according to KATV.

Police said they didn't learn about the story behind Monday's crash until Friday.

"Bird Box" is a recently released Netflix drama featuring Sandra Bullock where a woman and her children live in an apocalyptic world that requires them to cover their eyes to avoid evil in order to escape.

The driver veered into oncoming traffic and struck a passenger vehicle. "But, apparently, it needs to be said". "... The stakes are just so high and it's just such a potentially risky thing as it is: to try and do it in that way is inexcusable".

Lyman said police have requested the teen driver be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving.
