Bus driver saves toddler wandering alone on freeway overpass

A Milwaukee bus driver stopped in the middle of her route to save a shivering tot who was wandering alone on a freeway overpass after his mom abandoned him, authorities said.

Irena Ivic has seen a lot during her career as a Milwaukee County Transit System driver in Milwaukee, but she was shocked by what she witnessed about 8 a.m. December 22.

When a barefoot little boy in a red onesie was spotted running down the sidewalk all alone, a bus driver came to the rescue.

The video later shows Ivic stopping her bus, running across the street, picking up the crying child and carrying him to the bus.

A woman passenger on the bus is also seen removing and offering her coat to warm up the child as they wait for the police to arrive.

The boy fell asleep in Ivic's arms, MCTS said.

Ivic said she wouldn't hesitate to help if she were in the same situation again. Police said her mother left her outside, and might have been experiencing a mental health crisis. The girl was reunited with her father.

This marks the ninth lost or missing child found by Milwaukee transit drivers in recent years, the statement said.
