Liquidation sales begin Friday with the stores closing by the end of February. Each of the stores employs approximately 10 to 25 employees.

Wisconsin retailer Shopko is closing 39 stores in 19 states, but none in MI.

Shopko is closing 39 stores, the company confirmed, as the regional discount store operator seeks to reconfigure its operations. The Minnesota stores to close are Paynesville and Mahnomen.

Hansen says the closures were dictated by the long-term outlook on profitability, sales trends, and growth potential.

As of today, Shopko operates more than 370 stores in 26 states.
