De Jong already has 60 professional appearances to his name for Ajax, scoring four goals with ten assists, and has been touted as a potential replacement for Fernandinho at City.

Highly rated midfielder De Jong has been heavily linked with LaLiga champions Barca and Premier League holders City following his impressive performances for Dutch giants Ajax.

De Jong had the best passing accuracy and dribble success rate in the Eredivise last season and he's continued to impress this term.

After that, De Jong says he could depart the club or remain for another season.

However, speaking to The Guardian, De Jong said he is keeping all options open, "It's hard to say what will happen". Ajax are aware they won't be able to keep the players at the club beyond this summer and want to extract the maximum price possible. Then we will see. "But I am not sure". In October, he conceded constant links to Barcelona had grown "annoying."

On the ongoing speculation, De Jong added: "I don't pay attention to it".

"I hear the stories but I just want to finish this season well". While Barcelona would love to add them to their ranks, they aren't willing to match the insane wages coming from other clubs as it's already going to be expensive to buy both from Ajax in the first place. "Get the ball back quickly, then play possession with so many combinations. City and Barcelona are great examples".
