It came when the Trumps walked into the front pew at National Cathedral.

"Noting George H.W. Bush had "big, strong hands", Meacham called him America's last great soldier statesman, a 20th century founding father" in the tradition of Washington, Adams, the Roosevelts, Truman and Eisenhower, "Men who believe in causes larger than themselves".

The Bush family joined President Trump and all former living former presidents, as well as world leaders and other distinguished guests, at the Washington National Cathedral. A short time later, the hearse left for St. Martin's Episcopal Church, where the former president will lie in response overnight ahead of funeral services Thursday morning.

After Melania Trump waved to Hillary Clinton, the camera panned out and viewers could see the former secretary of state nodding her head, seemingly annoyed.

The group then appeared to sit silently in the row for several minutes before the ceremony truly got underway.

According to the spokesperson who worked for George H.W. Bush post-presidency, while making plans for the services, the president asked, "Do you think anyone will come?"

Among those in attendance were past and present members of Houston's various professional sports teams, including Hinch, former Texans receiver Andre Johnson and former Rockets player Calvin Murphy.
