Jake jumped right into the deep end with a video seemingly confirming he was playing the villain in the next Spider-Man movie, Far From Home. But now at last, it seems we have confirmation, from the horse's (evil magician's) mouth.
The actor, 37, used his first-ever Instagram post to announce his role in the action film. The actor teases fans over realising that he's not playing Spider-Man, while reading a comic with Mysterio on the cover (and another such cover is framed on the wall behind him). However, the actor and the studio behind the upcoming superhero film have been mum on the topic.
This marks the first time that anyone involved with Far From Home has confirmed Mysterio's inclusion in the film.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: "I would say, with John Watts who directed the movie, what makes this instalment of that franchise so great is that there is an intimacy to it". It's now unclear which incarnation of Mysterio Gyllenhaal will be portraying.
The actor officially joined Instagram on Wednesday and revealed he will be starring in the Spider-Man sequel.
Mysterio, real name Quentin Beck, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 in June 1964.
The film will see Tom Holland return to play Spider-Man and Zendaya as Michelle Jones.
