Users Instagram will be “close friends”

In October, Instagram appointed long-term insider Adam Mosseri as the head of the photo-sharing app following the high-profile exits of the photo-sharing app's co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. "With Close Friends, you have the flexibility to share more personal moments with a smaller group that you choose".

- You will see two tabs- one shows you the number of followers you have and second reads Close Friends. It's also important to note that one way to tell if someone has added you to their list is you'll see a green badge when you're looking at their Story. To do so, users should go to the App Store or Google Play on their device and then download the latest version of the app.

The feature is aimed at the platform's influencers, offering them another way to build and strengthen their communities on YouTube. When they take a photo or video in the app, they'll see something at the bottom that says "Close Friends" with a star in a green circle.

The way you can check this new feature out is by going to your profile and tapping on "Close Friends" on the side menu.

Let us know if your news organisation decides to use the "Close Friends" list on Instagram Stories - we would love to know how it is helping you connect with audiences.

Tap "Add" next to the names of the people you would like to make up your exclusive list.

Once you click on the hamburger icon, you'll find the "Close Friends List" as the fourth option.

Keep your friends close ... and your close friends closer?

Although YouTube tested the feature with a few channels earlier this year, the rollout to those essentially within YouTube's Partner Program means YouTube Stories may start appearing more often on the homepage for mobile users. The feature is being rolled out globally.

Just like Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook, YouTube is rolling out a Stories feature to users, but only if you have at least 10,000 subscribers.
