BioWare boss Casey Hudson celebrates N7 Day with a sip of coffee

It's been more than six years since the Mass Effect trilogy wrapped up, after all, and Mass Effect: Andromeda's most lasting impact was forcing the closure of BioWare Montreal.

Mass Effect Andromeda could have been one of the best RPGs ever, but sadly the game never realizes its full potential.

BioWare's Casey Hudson teased the future for the "Mass Effect" universe in a promotional video for 2018's N7 Day on Wednesday. This year, BioWare released a video celebrating Mass Effect and its fandom.

For reference, Mass Effect Andromeda runs at 1800p resolution through checkerboard rendering on PlayStation 4 Pro hardware. Does the update significantly improve your experience?

"It means coming into the studio everyday, dreaming about what the next great "Mass Effect" game will be", Hudson said.

Hudson then takes a sip out of a "I Should Go" coffee cup, an allusion to one of Commander Shephard's repeated, and iconic, lines of dialogue to end conversations with other characters. BioWare has been putting its efforts into Anthem, its open-world sci-fi multiplayer game, which is set to release in February.

It sure does seem like Hudson's lingering look at the camera is a meaningful wink to fans, letting them know that the Mass Effect series hasn't been killed off in a boardroom somewhere.

But BioWare shouldn't wait long for the next installment given all the possibilities the Mass Effect universe contains.
