No Man’s Sky ‘The Abyss’ update focuses on the game’s underwater aspects

Free No Man's Sky The Abyss DLC brings submarines, sunken wrecks, and deep sea horrors

No Man's Sky's Latest Update Will Be Underwater

Explore the terrors of the deep. The Abyss will be introducing aquatic environments with over five times more variety, varied creature behaviors, and improved visuals when underwater.

A new storyline called The Dreams of the Deep will also be included in the latest update, which "brings a new context" to the overall narrative of No Man's Sky.

Version 1.7 of the game sees Hello Games overhaul the underwater rendering and effects, while adding submersible building modules to create underwater seabases, replete with airlocks to contend with water pressure, and the upgradeable Nautilon exocraft with which to explore the ocean bed. Players can upgrade the submersible with installable Submarine Technology and customize the Nautilon to stand out from their fellow explorers.

Marine shelters, glass corridors, viewing bays and multistory submersible view domes are a few to look forward to. Players can now bring their aquatic life into a habitat with a decorative indoor aquarium.

The fully-explorable oceanic biomes will be generated more similarly to land biomes with plenty of flora and fauna to discover. Explore oceans with new depth, filled with treasure and risky new life forms. "Underwater creatures have become more frequent, and more interesting", Hello Games revealed. Sunken wrecks are also present and could contain ancient treasures, or buildings containing remnants of the lost occupant. Use the terrain manipulator to excavate treasures buried in the nearby ocean floor. Sunken ships and ruins left behind are just some of the mission-related areas that Hello Games teased, though it'll be up to players to find them all themselves.
