Barcelona and Turkey midfielder Arda Turan could face a 12-year jail sentence after he was allegedly involved in a nightclub fight with a popstar.

Sahin, who goes on stage by his first name Berkay, was also charged, with prosecutors demanding up to two years in jail.

He was questioned by police last Thursday over the alleged incident.

According to the singer, Turan approached his wife, making suggestive remarks to her, before head-butting her husband and breaking his nose. Turan's wife Aslihan Dogan was not present.

After participating in a fight in a bar last Wednesday, Arda Turan, now on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir from Barcelona, has been fined 370,000 euros by the Turkish club.

Turkish television stations have published footage showing the aftermath of the incident outside a nightclub.

"Our board of directors met on October 15 at 7:30pm in an extraordinary meeting, as the only item on the agenda was our player Arda Turan, and several decisions were made in this regard", announced the Turkish club on their official website.

The reports add that, later that night, Turan took a gun to hospital and said to Berkay, "I didn't know she is your wife".

The attacking midfielder, who won 100 caps for the national side, has for years been Turkey's best known footballer and is a strong supporter of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In the video, Turan is seen coming out of the club as the melee continues outside.

Turan is notorious for poor behaviour both on and off the field. Earlier in May this year, Turan was handed a 16-match ban for shoving and verbally abusing the linesman during Basaksehir's match against Sivasspor.

Pundits say he has been on the decline ever since leaving Atletico.
