Razer Phone 2 fixes everything wrong with the original - Hands On Review

Razer Phone 2

Razer Phone 2 officially announced along with a mobile gamepad

Razer has launched its follow up to the "category creating" Razer Phone.

The Razer Phone 2 has appeared on Amazon's Italy website ahead of its official launch.

Though it is broadly the same in appearance, Razer has smoothed out and rounded the edges subtly and the new device is said to be more comfortable in the hand. The custom Chroma RGB lighting on the back of the Razer Phone 2 is not only unique in terms of looks (not so much if you're invested into the Razer ecosystem) it is also pretty useful. In total, Razer says there are 16.8 million colour options available to pick from.

Razer has designed the Razer Phone 2 with a new glass back to support Wireless charging. The Razer Phone 2 does not have a headphone jack but sports dual stereo speakers. Razer has also increased the brightness of the display by 50% compared to its predecessor. The improved display is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which should keep the pixel-packed screen free from scratches - no matter how aggressive the gaming.

Inside the Razer Phone 2 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (2.80 GHz) with Adreno 630 GPU, a common feature in many flagships.

Other specs include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, LTE Cat18 support (up to 1.2Gbit/s), 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0+ and wireless charging, and IP67 water and dust resistance rating.

Cameras have been improved in this second generation device. It is also the only phone certified by Netflix for for HDR video content and Dolby Surround 5.1 audio content.

On the back of the phone, Razer has completely redesigned the dual-camera system, which now uses Sony camera sensors with optical image stabilisation. For the front, it has a 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The company also announced on Thursday that it would be launching a new entry-level model of the Razer Blade gaming laptop, the Raiju Mobile game controller, and Hammerhead USB-C active noise cancelling accessories for the Razer Phone 2. Razer is shipping the Razer Phone 2 with Android 8.1 and Nova launcher.

The phone will be available in two shades of black, including Mirror Black and Satin Black, and it will ship in the fourth quarter in the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with preorders set for October 11th.
