Lucas Hernandez explains why he said no to Real Madrid

It is believed that Los Blancos made their interest in Atletico Madrid and France defender Lucas Hernandez known while he was in Russian Federation representing his country.

The 22-year-old, who can operate both in central defence and at left-back - a role he fulfilled for France in the country's World Cup-winning campaign at Russian Federation 2018 - told an interview with Radio Monte Carlo: "I didn't pay too much attention [to the offer]".

It's claimed United have told Lucas that they will double his current wages if he agrees to complete a move to Old Trafford - and he's open to the move.

With France's friendly against Iceland on Thursday and their Nations League clash with Germany next Tuesday on the horizon, Atletico Madrid left-back Lucas Hernandez has admitted that he rejected an offer from Real Madrid.

"I didn't listen to it much".

The French worldwide, a world champions last summer in Russian Federation, explained that "I didn't listen too much because I was 100 per cent focused on my club and renewed my deal recently".

"My agent told me about it. When he said there was an opportunity to go to Real Madrid, I told him I couldn't do that".

"Atletico is my club, the team that gave me everything".

'I am an honest person and I couldn't go to Madrid'.
