One week after he sparked a backlash by going on a rant on Saturday Night Live, accusing the cast of bullying him over his pro-Trump beliefs, Kanye West was slammed on the show's weekly Weekend Update. Davidson said that many felt Weekend Update host Michael Che should have commented on Kanye, but that "even though Che is black and I'm insane, we both know which side of Kanye is at the wheel right now".
"What Kanye said after we went off the air last week was one of the worst things I've ever seen while working here", Pete said before suggesting that Kanye should get back on medication. "We all had to stand behind him, and here is what it looked like". "He wore it all week". Like, nobody told him not to wear it.
"A lot of people thought [Michael Che] should be the one to talk about Kayne because Che's black, but I'm insane, and we both know which side of Kanye is at the wheel right now", Davidson said while Che nodded in agreement.
On Kayne's bit about abolishing the 13th Amendment, which Davidson interpreted as saying slavery wasn't real, he said: "You know how wrong you have to be about politics for me to notice?" "Do you know how annoying that is?"
He then added, "Kanye is a genius, but like a musical genius". Like Joey Chestnut is a hot dog eating genius. But I don't want to hear Joey Chestnut's opinion on things that are not hot dog related.
On a Trump- and Kavanaugh-heavy Weekend Update - which also included Eric and Don Jr. swinging by to make racist jokes - Davidson swung by at the end to reflect on what it was like to be there on stage near West while he was singing the president's praises. The source also noted that Kim just stared at her husband and didn't seem fazed by his remarks, despite him receiving audible boos from the crowd. Then adding he wished someone had told him not to wear a purple hat, that he showed in a photo of himself and fiancee Ariana Grande.
