Active shooter 'opens fire in software company causing "devastating loss"'

The State Journal reports that the Dane County dispatch center said shots have been fired at Esker Software in Middleton.

Judy Lahmers is a business analyst at WTS Paradigm in the Madison suburb of Middleton. One of the station's anchors says an employee saw a co-worker open fire, hitting multiple people.

Another employee says she ran for her life after hearing gunshots.

Esker's website explains how the company develops artificial intelligence which is says combines 'human and machine learning for the ultimate user experience'.

"I saw a dude walking with a gun inside the building", King said, according to the news outlet. NBC15 reported that the office building appears to be the location of Paradigm Software.

Keely Arthur of CNN affiliate WISC said about 50 police cars and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are at the scene.

Police and multiple ambulances have responded. Police set up a perimeter around the building, Madison.com reported. She provided no additional information. There are stores and restaurants affected.

"Please lock all doors, stay inside and shelter in place", the Middleton Police Department said Wednesday. "Avoid the area north of West Campus into Middleton".
