The First 'Captain Marvel' Trailer Is Here

The trailer for 'Captain Marvel' will likely drop this week

Marvel first teased the part-human, part-alien character in Avengers: Infinity War, when Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury paged her in the end-credits scene.

Marvel has released the first trailer for Captain Marvel, and of course it opens with Carol Danvers falling into a branch of Blockbuster.

Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck - another left-field choice by Marvel, as the pair were previously known for small scale indie films such as Half Nelson, baseball movie Sugar, and gambling drama Mississippi Grind. She also had partial-Kree physiology - the Kree being an advanced alien race within the Marvel Comics universe. After joining an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law's enigmatic commander, Carol is thrown into an intergalactic battle after the Skrulls invade Earth, led by Ben Mendelsohn's Talos at the head of the army. But just before he turned to dust, Fury sent a pager message to Carol Danvers, presumably to summon her back to Earth and help sort everything out in Avengers 4.

In the comics, Captain Marvel had a whole host of super powers, including flight, super-strength and energy blasts. We soon get to see a glimpse into how Captain Marvel came to be. A little light on the elaborate VFX shots, perhaps, but one supposes that's to be expected, given that Captain Marvel doesn't arrive until next March.

Danvers reveals she's not entirely sure what her connection to Earth is; however, she has memories and flashes of her previous life as a child, a cadet, an Air Force pilot. Watch the trailer above, and stay tuned for EW's full, frame-by-frame breakdown.
