Paris Saint-Germain manager, Thomas Tuchel, has said Neymar didn't know if he was ready against St Etienne, so he elected to rest his star striker.
Neymar and Kylian Mbappe both didn't play for PSG against St. Etienne, with Thomas Tuchel resting the former while the latter served a ban for a red card he received before the global break.
After returning from worldwide duty with Brazil earlier this week, Neymar watched the victory over Saint Etienne in the stands with team-mate Kylian Mbappe who was suspended for the match.
Julian Draxler, Cavani, Angel Di Maria and teenage forward Moussa Diary were all on the score-sheet as PSG secured a fifth successive Ligue 1 game in which they have scored at least three goals.
"I know that many people view the Liverpool match as the most important", Tuchel said. "I told him that he was not going to play and that he could not train".
The Saint-Etienne players were wearing shirts carrying the name of William Gomis, a former youth player at the club who was shot dead in the south of France earlier this week. "However, I say that whether we play in Nimes, or Guingamp, or at home to Saint-Etienne, every game is hard". Today we were without Neymar and Kylian and I'm happy to have used players that were here during the worldwide break.
"We knew PSG were stronger than us but four goals are expensive".
PSG will be shorthanded for the match, which perhaps opens the door to a surprise result at the Parc des Princes. They also have Champions League experience and reached last season's final. It will be a big test for us. "Liverpool will reveal something but most importantly it will give us a better idea of our situation".
"It was a good rehearsal, good for the confidence ahead of Tuesday's match in Anfield against Liverpool".
