Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has developed further as a player than Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane had when they were the same age, according to England manager Gareth Southgate.

"In 2017-18, he played 35 matches in the Premier League, eight in the Champions League, five in the FA Cup including the final, three League Cup matches and the European Super Cup final".

"Marcus Rashford is not Dominic Solanke".

Rashford scored both of England's goals over the global break - one in the defeat to Spain at Wembley; the other in the win over Switzerland in Leicester.

The media doesn't realize that Mourinho is actually trying to tell them that he has given Rashford all the playing time, he just refused to produce.

"In this moment I'm completely in the dark", Mourinho said ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Watford.

United's Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has played the France worldwide for just 60 minutes in all competitions this season.

"Because some of the boys are really obsessed with me and some of them have, I think a problem with some compulsive lies, so I can expect that Sunday some of them will wake up in the morning and always the first thing they think that comes to their mind is Jose Mourinho".

Mourinho gave a detailed explanation about Rashford's playing time under him ranging from matches, minutes and competitions during the two-year period.

The Portuguese coach then reeled off a stream of statistics detailing Rashford's 105 appearances in Mourinho's first two seasons in charge before pointedly suggesting other managers should be quizzed for their use of young English players.

"Probably you should remind them he is suspended and can not play".

"Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, even if they are not playing a lot or if they are not starting matches, by the character point of view and by what they represent in the modern society in football they are nearly unique pieces that I also don't want to lose".

"Since I was here, he was never one day out for selection because of my decision, only if injured or suspended. That is why I am going so specific about these numbers".

"I don't know if that is true", said Mourinho when asked if Raiola was trying to engineer a move for his client.

Jose Mourinho's men came second to local rivals Man City in the race for the title a year ago, but in truth they never really looked like winning the trophy, ultimately finishing 19 points behind their neighbours.
