The OG Sabrina, Melissa Joan Hart, recently came out to say she had "no feelings" about the new series, but did admit she was glad bosses were taking a darker approach and "not just duplicating" it. Scenes of teenage romance, a mortuary, goat-headed demons, pentagrams, and creepy witches flash before your eyes as the "Happy Birthday" song is sung solemnly in the background. Netflix's "Sabrina" iteration, developed by "Riverdale" creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, looks like a dark coming-of-age series that heavily features witchcraft. In the freaky new teaser, which dropped on Thursday, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) celebrates her 16th birthday with an eerie rendition of "Happy Birthday" accompanied by some pretty weird guests. The series the set to show the teenager wrestling to reconcile her dual nature - half-witch, half-mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten herself, her family and the daylight world that humans inhabit. It may not be the Sabrina you grew up with, but it looks every bit as spellbinding. There will be plenty of soapy teen drama along with all the horror and magic, as we can see from the brief shots of the school and Sabrina at a party.
The show will officially debut on Netflix on October 26.
