The AP Preseason Top 25 Poll Is Out

College football's "week zero" arrives later this week and, to celebrate the start of the 2018 season, The Associated Press released its first Top 25 offering of the campaign on Monday. The AP's preseason top 25 poll is one of two preseason polls. A team receives 25 points for each first place vote, 24 for second place and so on through to the 25th team, which receives one point, per AP. It was the 52 time the Crimson Tide has appeared in the AP preseason poll and the third consecutive season in which the program has opened up as the No. 1 team in the country. The team with the highest point total leads the rankings.

Last year, for the first time in 13 years, the AP Top 25 panel of voters correctly identified the national champion in the preseason. The second poll will be released ahead of Week 2. OU's all-time average preseason AP rank is 6.7, best in the nation (Michigan is second at 7.4).

See the full poll here. Kansas State received 10 points (36th overall) and Iowa State eight points (37th).

Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Wisconsin and Ohio State round out the top five.

OU opens the 2018 season by hosting Florida Atlantic on September 1 at 11 a.m. CT at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
