The Cleveland Clinic has been ranked the number 2 hospital in the nation, and has also kept its number 1 ranking for cardiac care for the 24th straight year according to the 2018-2019 US News and World Report hospital rankings.

The honor roll includes 20 hospitals with the highest combined overall scores in 16 medical and surgical specialties.

The Mayo Clinic was ranked No. 1 overall in Arizona and cracked the national honor roll, tied for 11th.

This is the second top ranking in three years for the Weston-based hospital, which also has locations in Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Parkland, West Palm Beach, Wellington and Palm Beach Gardens.

The rankings compared more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions.

Cleveland Clinic Florida was nationally ranked in two specialties - gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery (25th) and orthopedics (42nd).

Jefferson Health-Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia took first place in both the cancer and cardiology and heart surgery categories, while Yale New Haven Hospital ranked best for diabetes and endocrinology.

The new methodology also includes more outcome measures to stress patient outcomes over hospital characteristics.

The U.S. News & World Report finds Mayo Clinic has more specialties than any other hospital in the country.
