The Frenchman, who had been linked with a possible transfer window move to Barcelona, said he remained hungry for more success.

Mourinho has consistently complained in recent weeks over his lack of backing from the United board and also had a host of injuries and players lacking match sharpness after the World Cup to contend with.

It was an impressive display that led to a standing ovation and hope that the Old Trafford faithful would now see the best from a supremely talented midfielder.

"We've learnt from the past that, if he takes too many players on like he did at Chelsea and Real Madrid, then there's only one thing that will happen".

"I know that Paul doesn't resist for 90, the same with Fred. But if you're not happy, you can not give your best".

But in comments attributed to Pogba in Sunday's British newspapers, he says: "There are things I can say and there are things I cannot say. otherwise I will get fined".

"It's not having just the armband", Pogba said of his view on leadership.

I had my plans, and I had my plans for many months, and I find myself in the beginning of the Premier League with the market closed, and I'm in a situation that I thought was not going to be the situation I would be in. Paul, he was fantastic his contribution was incredible, but the fuel was disappearing every minute so we were in trouble and I needed [Marouane] Fellaini and [Scott] McTominay to give me that balance in midfield.

"In the periods Leicester were stronger we played as a team and coped well".

That's not surprising, because I know from experience that everyone is a bit rusty for the first game back.

The pair of big personalities went back and forth before Pogba, who was the captain on the night, pulled rank and stepped up.

'I am the same Paul Pogba (as at the World Cup).

"It's a different team, obviously".

Pogba said "everybody was on the same page" in the France dressing room, from manager Didier Deschamps to the kitman, physio and players.

"We have to wait for end of November, beginning of December to understand how things are going and if we can fight for the title". "I have always been talking to the team-mates".

It's Shaw's victor. He scored his first senior team goal with a lovely move around his defender and a fine finish to the far post. I came in the academy, I grew up.

Fittingly, Paul Pogba's first ever goal in the EPL came against Leicester during the 2016 Season.
