Hostilities between the couple erupted again last week when the Tomb Raider star lodged court papers saying Pitt had not paid any "meaningful" child support since their break-up two years ago - a claim he strenuously denies.
Brad Pitt says he's given estranged wife Angelina Jolie Pitt more than US$1 million (NZ$2m) and lent her another US$8m since their separation. His camp hit back nearly immediately, insisting he had paid Jolie US$1.3 million in bills and even loaned her US$8 million to buy a new home.
Brad Pitt on Wednesday (Aug 8) rebutted claims that he had failed to support his children and accused his estranged wife Angelina Jolie of trying to manipulate the media in their long drawn-out divorce.
The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain host, who is notorious for publicising his sometimes less than complimentary opinions on celebrities, took aim at the actress, 43, after her lawyer said Brad, 54, had not "regularly sustained" payments for their children's expenses.
The broadcaster blasted: "That's such a weak, cheap shot, Angelina - especially for a humanitarian who says she always puts her children first". The only way Angelina could get a cut of Brad's income from 2004 - 2014 is if she could prove they had an agreement that he would support her.
Pitt's attorneys said that Jolie's claims were "a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage".
Jolie Pitt's filing also said she wanted to have the couple's marriage dissolved by the end of the year by separating some of the lingering issues to be resolved later.
The divorce filing, citing irreconcilable differences, triggered a bitter custody dispute during which Pitt was investigated and cleared of child abuse.
Jolie Pitt's filing requested a case management hearing, which would take place privately in front of a judge, to discuss the issues of child support and finalising the divorce soon. Jolie Pitt now has primary custody of their children.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been in the midst of a bitter divorce battle for almost two years now, and after all this time, they're no closer to settling things.
Jolie's representatives did not immediately return a request for comment on Wednesday.
Angelina Jolie is sounding the alarm. all is not well in the money department.
